We are all human.

There will be a scientific reason and yet I still wonder why. Why two tomatoes attached to the same vine ripened at different times. It’s now September and I wonder if the green tomatoes will ever become fully ripe.

Was the summer too hot, the soil too rich in nitrogen or have the non edible parts of the tomato plant taken all the goodness in the water…

In these troubled times with talk of us and them – mine and yours, I thank God every day for my privileged life. I did not work or fight for the place on earth of my birth – England. I am no more or less deserving than any other human being. I share not a house or street or town or country with my human brothers and sisters but a planet, a universe…

As a Christian I read the life and words of Jesus. There I find an overwhelming message of love not war, care not crush, and receive not reject.

I look at our tomato plant and wonder what could we have done differently to ensure all the fruits became ripe. What of our fellow human kind… What can we do to ensure other thrive?

  1. When I was growing up, my father used to tell us that we should put a ripe tomato in the greenhouse so the green tomatoes would know what they should do. It’s been a bit of a joke in the family although I think there may be some science behind it. However, I feel blessed inmy life to have met saints and angels who show me more about how I should live – and that Jesus came among us to show us the perfect way.
