Pumps & Pauses

Recently I helped a friend service a water pump on a farm.  When we first separated the pump from the pipework and put it on the bench it looked dusty and the stainless steel case just needed a wipe over. Then we took the cover off!

Rushing through this pump had been water that on first glance looked clean-ish.  Yet the water carried manganese. I would get technical if I could, but I can’t, so in my simple understanding of these things manganese is a kind of metal often used in the   process of making stainless steel but over time it is a problem to the smooth running of a pump.

All illustrations fall apart at some point yet they can carry such a rich reward if we receive them as a pointer and not the point

These pictures are an illustration reminding me that sometimes when I try to get traction in my spiritual life I start dusting off the outer case or change my external appearance. Then I realise my spirituality is still sluggish or not flowing as I think it could.

I can tell you that after freeing up that pump of manganese and some head scratching to rebuild it, that pump ran with less resistance to its doing what it was designed for.

In my new book Pause—A Spiritual Power I aim to encourage my reader to take a look inside thier lives. I believe we were designed to be spiritual but a resistance to this can subconsciously build up in us the way manganese does in pumps.
