Funeral Celebrant

The Spirit of Pause

Saying thank you for a life which continues to be part of your experience is important.

Much in life goes unnoticed and not always with deliberate intent. A life passes from time into eternity, a child is suddenly an adult, an enjoyable career becomes what we did before retirement. Our aim is to help make sense of some of these transition points. Rob steps in and walks with you through those crucial moments of expressing thanks for the life that still matters to you.

Since 1993 I have been privileged to support families celebrating the passing of a loved one. My style is to draw together the life of the person being celebrated in a biographical story. There is such a richness in life and I often discover, where other have not looked, opportunities to articulate unexpressed compassion, courage or conviction. I remember one of my first funeral service. I had the blessing of meeting the man before he past away. Sat by his bedside we choose hymns and planned the service. He told me how he thought he had achieved little in life. By the time we had quarried his life’s journey I had 12 sides of A4 in notes. I learned that we all have a story, we all have something of interest that others would value knowing.

For those present in a service my invitation is to journey in the life of the person being celebrated. My 30 years as a minister in the Christian tradition have taught me to sensitively create space for meaningful reflection and honest celebration.

A well-spoken eulogy

“When mum died Rev Rob came to the house and asked loads of questions. On the day of the funeral we were surprised to hear him speak of mum as though telling a story. Rob used four words that alliterated and summed mum up”. – Mark

“Saying goodbye to dad was not easy but Rob found a link with dad’s past and an historic event which transported us back to the early 19th century making sense of the span of dad’s life. Touches of humour and honesty helped us to let go of things and respect who dad had been”. – June

“Rob, I did not have the opportunity to thank you for your words at dad’s funeral yesterday. By focusing on the positive aspects of dad’s life you were able to make a very difficult time easier for myself and my family. There were even a few chuckles at some of the stories – dad would certainly have approved! Many Thanks”. – Peter

Hello Rob, we all would like to thank you so much for a perfect service today. Comments were ‘He was fantastic ‘ and ‘He nailed it’ and ‘He was so spot on about Philip’. So a BIG thank you to you for a wonderful service, God bless you. – Elisabeth
