Edward Elgar is reported to have said, “The Spirit of God is not something less than God, – it is God.”
He is celebrated here in Worcester as a son of the city. His story reminds me of the importance of parents. Now a world famous composer I suspect it all began with his mum’s passion for literature and the outdoors. His dad, a piano tuner and sheet music seller, took young Elgar to work visiting grand houses around Worcester.
I suspect Elgar was well influenced, encouraged, and resourced. No wonder he fulfilled his potential.
I wonder if we fulfill our potential as we encourage and support others in pursuit of theirs?
There is a line in the letter to the church in Philippi that reminds us of a great attitude to have. “…not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others.”
