praying

On my book shelf is an old book by Frederick Crossfield Happold, they don’t name ’em like that anymore! The title of his book is The Journey Inward, he wrote it in 1968 and the previous owner of my particular copy wrote his name and Queen’s College in the cover. I should write under this, Rob Wykes – Converted Garage for that’s where I sit to think and write.

A comment I read in The Journey Inward this morning challenged me ‘There are fortunate people who seem to be able to slip into the prayer-state easily and spontaneously. For others, particularly those with speculative, analytical minds, it is difficult.’

Sitting in my normal meditation position with my feet on the ground eyes closed and listening to my breathing, I had to ask myself, ‘Do I enter prayer spontaneously or speculatively?’

What about you?
